World of Tanks Blitz Review

World of Tanks Blitz Review

There’s something unexplainably satisfying about blowing things up with a digital tank

There’s a fairly good chance you’ve heard of World Of Tanks. It’s that free-to-play online game that puts players into the driver’s seat of behemoth tanks and encourages you to blow up everyone in sight. It’s one of the biggest games in the world, and so it’s no surprise that developer Wargaming has taken the concept and transferred it to mobile devices. What is a surprise, however, is how solid and enjoyable the experience of playing World Of Tanks Blitz actually is.

World Of Tanks on console and PC had a tendency to seem overcomplicated, but Wargaming has streamlined the entire experience for mobile. The team size has been reduced from 15 to seven, the eight maps are smaller and denser than their PC counterparts, and there’s only three countries represented across the game’s 90 tanks.

World Of Tanks Blitz has successfully captured the essence of the original game; distilled what made it fun to begin with and pumped that into rounds that last no longer than eight minutes.

With these sorts of releases, there’s always a worry that play-to-win culture will dominate. World Of Tanks Blitz approaches monetization smartly, ensuring that it’s only for those who want a wider variety of options without a lot of effort – it doesn’t seem to give any immediate advantages on the battlefield.
