Tiny Wings HD

Tiny Wings HD

Learning to fly can be a brilliantly bumpy ride

A quick glance at Tiny Wings HD’s comical cartoon birds will most likely have you thinking it’s a polished Angry Birds-alike, but you’d be wrong.  In fact, it shares more in common with the likes of Sir Benfro’s Brilliant Balloon than the popular physics-based puzzler. Tiny Wings HD is a polished and addictive checkpoint racer with simple one-touch controls perfectly matched by some equally straightforward gameplay.

Steering a bird that is unable to fly on account of its tiny wings, the object of the game is to help it traverse a series of hilly courses as quickly and as smoothly as possible. Touching the screen causes the bird to fold in its wings and hug the ground, while releasing your finger makes it flap them furiously to hang in the air and climb hills faster, and you must time your actions so that the bird slides down and takes off from hills smoothly to gain both speed and air.

This system is tested across three different game modes: an endurance race in which you race to beat the approaching night sky, another that sees you race against three other birds to the finish, and finally a superb split-screen party mode that lets you compete with friends in point-chasing games using the same device. With stunning looking visuals, addictive gameplay, catchy music and plenty of modes, Tiny Wings HD is a superb game and an essential purchase.
