Things Review

Sometimes you just need to get things done, this task management app for iPhone and iPad is here to help

Some task managers are easy to delve into and set up. Things isn’t quite as easy as that but the wealth of options it has will ensure you use this app time and time again. When you use it often, you discover it is actually more intuitive than you first imagined too.

The main screen displays lists which detail what is happening that day, tomorrow or sometime in the future. They can be a mix of single to-dos through to active projects. This means Things has the ability to group tasks together under one umbrella so that you can keep items in one place and go through them one by one. It makes it perfect for academic work, for instance, or anything from house moves to wedding planning.

The inbox is taken from iOS’s Reminders app. By allowing Things to access Reminders, you can go through each entry and decide whether or not to import or move it. You can then edit these, tagging them, making notes and ensuring the due date is correct and put them under the control of Things.

For those who like to sync their tasks between other devices, there is also the ability to sync wirelessly with the desktop version of  the app. But all of this comes at a cost. Things isn’t cheap, so you need to work out whether or not Reminders doesn’t do what you need from it. If that’s the case, then this app probably isn’t for you. That said, there are few finer task managers around that match this standard of intuition  and simplicity. It’s a real pleasure to use and a fantastic addition to any device.

Rated 4 out of 5

A winning task manager that puts you in control of projects in a way few other apps can match.
