The Photo Cookbook – Simple & Delicious Review

The new Simple & Delicious recipe app from The Photo Cookbook iPhone and iPad series makes cooking easy for beginners

If variety is the spice of life, being able to mix it up at meal times couldn’t fail to make every day that little bit more interesting. If you feel that you are unskilled in the kitchen, the prospect of learning how to sauté, grill, bake and broil could be enough to give you indigestion. Thankfully, The Photo Cookbook – Simple and  Delicious is here.

The app aims to help newbies overcome their culinary concerns with a range of simple recipes grouped under Starters, Pastas and Pizzas, Main Dishes and Desserts. The main menu is a grid of tasteful images of meals that include basic classics such as fried ham and cheese sandwiches and spaghetti bolognese as well as more exotic fare such as mozzarella-stuffed chicken and mushroom stroganoff.

Tapping on an image brings up the recipe, beginning with a photo of the ingredients. Below are cooking steps consisting of short passages of text and pictures of what you should see at each stage. Nutritional information for each recipe is accessible from an icon at the top of screen, where you can also add notes, flag favourites and share recipes.

The number of recipes included with the app is limited but if you’ve been avoiding the oven, they should give you confidence to move on to more advanced titles once you’ve had your fill.
