The Economist Espresso
This concise app offers a shot of daily business news
We applaud the ‘no-strings attached’ way that this app operates. A new digital edition of The Economist is automatically downloaded to your device daily and you can either pay nothing, dip in and enjoy reading one full article of your choice over breakfast, or subscribe for a modest monthly fee of £2.49/$3.99 and read everything.
The interface is very straightforward – ideal for bleary-eyed morning commuters – you simply scroll down through the current day’s news agenda and categories and tap on an article to read. No frills.
The app may have perhaps benefitted from having options to tailor the display and font sizes when reading the articles, but unfortunately the in-app settings are reserved almost entirely to subscribing or to your existing subscription (you can enjoy a free trial to digest more of the articles on a daily basis).
It’s probably worth owning the app on a totally free basis for a decent, albeit brief morning read, but the subs fees are small enough should you want more Economist insight beamed to your device every day.
Provides a decent free read every day through an interface designed to be as morning-friendly as possible.
