The Early Edition 2

The Early Edition 2

View your favourite RSS feeds in a unique newspaper style

In an App Store category dominated by the likes of super-slick Reeder and innovative Pulp, it can’t be easy to build a great RSS reader, but that’s just what Glasshouse Apps have done with The Early Edition 2. Building on the already popular Early Edition, the second iteration of the app is built from the ground up for iOS 5, and the results are stunning.

The idea behind The Early Edition 2 is simple; just tell the app what categories of news interest you, and it’ll pull up top stories from the most popular feeds in that category on the internet and create your own personal newspaper from them. The app’s algorithm intelligently gives more prominent stories a greater number of column inches, much in the way a newspaper editor would, leaving with you with a fairly realistic personalised news service.

However, this app isn’t for everyone. Although it’s incredibly well produced, some will be put off by the cluttered newspaper-style layout, but if you like the idea of new media looking like old media, this is definitely for you. It looks a little snappier than its rival, Pulp, and there’s plenty of great features like social sharing included, which make it worth the money.

The Early Edition 2 is the perfect antidote to RSS overload with its newspaper-esque style.
