POWER Platon

POWER Platon

A superb photo coffee book app packed with extraordinary shots

POWER Platon is a coffee table-style eBook that truly impresses. Photographer Platon has compiled a series of one-off shots of 100 of the world’s most powerful political figures, from President Obama to UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon.

Compiled over a year at the UN headquarters in New York, each portrait is more stunning than the next. Such intimate photos of powerful men and women are hard to find, with every wrinkle, blemish and crease visible. Such a personal insight into powerful figures will make this a curious book for many.

The photos take priority here, and can be viewed with no interruptions by holding the device in portrait. Tap to see captions, or turn it to landscape to see a mini bio. There’s a map where you double tap to zoom in on regions, and tap on countries to see their political figures. It would have been nice to be able to click on that person and be taken to their full-screen photo, however. Also of note is the slideshow and audio commentaries on each shot by Platon.

There’s little whiz and bang to this app, but that would be to miss the point. It’s all about the phenomenal shots, which look great on the iPad’s screen. It’s just a shame the price point is so high, which may put off many, although the print version is much more expensive.
