Get the best out of brainstorming

Brainstorming is one of those tasks that when done well, can truly make a project or task far easier. It’s also one that is tough to do digitally, although there’s a growing number of apps that try.

The classic idea of a brainstorm forming from a central idea is quite tricky to synthesise on a computer, but MindJet has really nailed it with this app. The key, as it turns out, is simplicity and sub-menus. The app lets you create any number of boxes that can be related to a central box or its offshoots, and you can then populate these with thoughts, notes, pictures and colours to create a detailed overview of the task at hand.

The menu system is simplicity itself, and gestures give you licence to create links and relationships from box to box. The ability to zoom and scroll lets your ideas flourish across what feels like infinite space, and there is never any need to reign in the ideas and notes that you make.

You can create as many maps as you want, and access them at any time. What’s more, you can easily email a map, or share it using Dropbox.

This really is a simple and effective brainstorming app, but in a growing and competitive field it doesn’t quite have the unique hook to blow the competition away. If functionality and personalisation are your only concerns, though, this will fulfil your needs.
