Golf Star Review

Golf Star Review

The greatest golf game on iPhone, iPad and Android – and it’s completely free!

Sometimes you can be sold just by looking at a game, and Golf Star™ from Com2uS is one of these occasions.

There’s an arcade feel to this cross-platform iOS and Android game as users must perform over a series of tutorial holes to begin levelling up, which will eventually unlock additional gameplay modes, mainly focused on multiplayer.

Players constantly earn coins for good shots and XP with each round that’s completed. This goes towards levelling up, and indeed opening more aspects of the game.

It’s the visuals that are the real star here and they are very impressive, especially considering this game is free to download. The smoothness and simple control system make for an enticing pick-up-and-play title. It probably won’t be taking over your gaming life, but you’ll enjoy dipping in and out of it.

This is where the multiplayer and one-on-one match modes are handy.
The in-app purchases come into play a little earlier than we would like, but this is quite literally a price worth paying considering the level of visual quality you’re getting.

Rated 5 out of 5

A very easy to pick up and put down game that looks absolutely great; a bit of a hidden gem.

A price worth paying? I hope you’re not referring to the hundreds of dollars you’re going to have to shell out to make your game even close to respectable. How much did they pay you guys to write this article? Was it worth your soul? Sell-out.

This game is a complete waste of time. Initially this game was the tops.
I couldn’t wait to get up and play. I didn’t even mind the hearts gauge
so much even though it is complete bullshit. What bothers me is that
this entire game is a scam to get your money. Period!. If you want to
play this game correctly you have pay literally HUNDRED AND HUNDREDS of
dollars to increase your stats to the point where your shots are both
powerful enough and accurate enough to even come close to good scores.
Quests make you use the consumables you have already earned to earn
different consumable?? BS. Once you step out of “beginners” land, you
lose all semblance of power and control over even the easiest of shots.
Online play is no better, you always get these insanely decked out
opponents that cream the bajeesus out of you with all their bought
upgrades. I’m so let down. I would easily pay 5, 10, even 20 bucks to
play this game with realistic progression and unlimited play. This is
just another candy crush money sucker.

I Completely agree. I had a problem recently and contacted the ‘customer support’. See thread below… worth readying (from bottom up)

      Dear E—

      Thank
      you for your inquiry.

You have read our message correctly and we have reported this issue to our
developers and we do not want any of our customers dissatisfied to any of our
games. For now, we cannot do anything about this and we are hoping for any
changes to be implemented in our succeeding game updates for our players to
continue playing and enjoying the game.

      Dear info@com2us.com
I just want to be sure I have understood
      what you have said:

I had a random chance to succeed. Less
random if I had used coins, though.

So to reduce the possibility of losing
the money I spent with you, I should have spent more money on coins to use to
synthesize, which if randomly I failed anyway, would have been a waste.

      Furthermore, once completed, that’s it.
No chance of going back. So the money I would have spent with you would now
potentially be gone, and the only way I could retrieve my ‘powered up clubs’
would be to spend more money?

However, I should stay tuned as you are
going to ‘try’ to increase the possibility in your future game updates? I’m not
sure I understand your use of the verb ‘try’. I’m quite sure changing the
probability rate of success is not something that you have to ‘try’ to do. I
would image it is something you simply do.

Please let me know if I have interpreted
your answer correctly, as you can imagine at the moment I feel as if my money
has been stolen and so before I take any further steps I would like to be sure
I have not misinterpreted your answer. As I read it now, it seems apathetic and
      insulting.

I will be posting this and all further
      answers on various social sites.

I look forward to hearing from you,

      Best Rgds

      Dear E–

      Thank
      you for your inquiry.

      Thank you for
writing back to us. We would like to inform you that ”Synthesize” works
random. You may fail or succeed but there is a greater chance that you succeed
if you use “coins” instead of “gp”. Once you use this
option, you will need to have one base club and one material club and your
material will be automatically used and theres no way to get it back no matter
what. After this process, the base clubs are the ones being changed and there
wont be a new club. It only gives you chance to improve your club once the
synthesizing becomes successful. We will try to increase the probability in our
future game updates so please stay tuned.

The negative comments are reasonably accurate, but I disagree that you have to continually pay to succeed. Its upfront cost for unlimited play (about $10 or during one of the in game “one time” promotions, $6.99) is too high, but it’s really the only requirement to play heavily.

I bought the starter pack or whatever it was called. Gives you enough stars to buy the free pass (unlimited play), some good stat upgrades and so on.

I’ve played from there into a level 24 character so far with no need for further costs. The main thing is learn the game. Invest heavily in the stats that affect control and your ‘sweet spot’ gauge. From there it’s easy to hit nice shots.

I agree that the game is obnoxious in its attempts to get you to spend, but you just have to resist and put some elbow grease into it and also learn what features are most important (control over distance always) to move up. I really enjoy it for that reason. Feels like tiger woods on an Nexus 7.

The whole IAP design model is terrible I’ll give everyone that. They should have made this game a standalone $15 purchase even and let you earn the rest through gameplay. But they want to sucker those who are willing to pay more. The best approach is figure out what it’ll cost to enjoy the game (essentially unlock it) and go for that. Leave the rest of the frill costs be.

If you practice and play constantly, you will be fine. I have 2 accounts. One that I have spent 10bux on and the other haven’t spent a cent. Both characters, I can shoot in negative double figures. Buying clothes with GP is that fastest free way to boost stats. The only shit part of this game, I get disconnected all the time and WiFi signal is always strong.
