Want to be an app developer? Then check out Codea

App development is big business; just ask the guys who invented Angry Birds. It has inspired a whole new generation of creative and technical minds to turn their hands to creating great apps for touchscreen mobile devices. The only stumbling block between you and your first big App Store hit is actually coding the thing. There’s no hard and fast way to do this beyond getting your head around the coding languages involved, but Codea can be a huge help.

Codea works with the Lua programming language, and while this might require some getting used to, it’s widely considered to be a  lot easier to master than many of the others.  But if you’re looking for a way to get started, then we strongly advise that you download this app. Aside from being a fully featured Lua editor and testing environment, Codea is designed for developers-in-training, and with features such as the colour picker (saving you valuable time finding the codes for different colours within your app), it really tries to make the whole process a lot easier.

The only drawback to Codea so far is that once you’ve put together a killer app, you’ve got no real way of sharing it with others. Thankfully, the developers are working on this, and say that if Apple’s App Store rules allow for it, they’ll work out a way for users to get their creations out  in the open.
