Engage your brain with a colourful and addictive puzzler

It may look simple and the tutorial may bore the pants off you, but when you get into Blip Blup it does prove to be an addictive puzzle game that, as time goes on, seriously has your brain engaged and challenged.

The idea is that you have sets of grids on which you need to start pulses of colours with just a handful of taps. If you tap the right colour, then the pulse resonates outwards to other tiles on the grid. You need to affect as many of these as possible in the fewest moves in order to progress to the next level.

The tutorial takes you through the basic steps. If anything, this is a rather plodding experience and you start to wonder what you’re getting into. But when you get to Pack 2 (there are nine packs in all), you need all of the expertise you will build up in order to get around the special blocking tiles and other such obstacles as you try to clear each section.

Progress can be shared with friends and other devices, so you can pick up where you left off and share some tips too. A free lite version is available on both iOS and Android, but once you get past the tutorial, you’re seeing adverts after every level and while you can pay to remove them, it does feel a bit too much at times.

Rated 4 out of 5

If you can get over the dull tutorial, this innovative touchscreen puzzler offers some quite addictive challenges to solve.
