We take a look inside the best the Beeb has to offer

For the two of you that have never used it before, BBC’s iPlayer lets you catch up on the Beeb’s TV and radio content, and the BBC iPlayer App brings this popular program to the iPad to let you watch your favourite shows when and wherever you want.

It’s a nicely designed App with a good, clear and easy to navigate layout. Simply touch the large image of your show of choice and you can almost instantly begin watching, following a brief buffering period.

The video and audio quality of the shows is excellent, with the former available in both high and low quality to tailor to slower Internet speeds. When watching the shows we encountered almost no additional buffering, letting you skip to a specific point in a show with no load times.

However, if you leave a show mid-way through either by mistake or on purpose, there’s no way to restart from where you left off, meaning you have to use the incredibly fiddly tracking bar to get back to where you were.

Also, we’d like to see the ability to download shows added to future versions of the App, similar to how the BBC iPlayer Desktop program for PCs lets you save shows.

While the App load times aren’t too much of an issue this would still be a welcome addition.

Rated 4 out of 5

An excellent free App to watch and listen to a whole host of content from the BBC
