Now you can turn to the Pork Side on iOS and Android

The new lease of life for Star Wars isn’t just limited to the big screen. The anticipation ahead of the release of this sequel to the collaboration with Angry Birds and Rovio has been impressive.

That’s because users have the chance to indulge in some flirtation with the Dark Side for the first time, or in this case the Pork Side. The likes of Darth Vader, Boba Fett and even the Emperor himself are available as playable characters, alongside Yoda and, worryingly, Jar Jar Binks.

The game feels like a love letter to the Star Wars universe from Rovio, but they have at least put effort in to expanding the game beyond the straight Angry Birds playing experience. There some unique abilities on show, including being able to use Young Anakin’s pod racer to propel you further than a catapult launch, for example. Also, players can jump between Jedi and the Dark Side in between certain levels, with each side having its own path through the game to follow. This means more levels than ever, and that can only be a good thing. Look out for free character rewards too, which allow you to trial yet-to-be-unlocked characters within your levels.

Then, of course, there are the Telepods to consider, which allow you to scan physical toys and see them drop into your game as characters. This is becoming a franchise of its own, and the gameplay evolution is reflecting steady growth.

Rated 4 out of 5

It’s better and more varied than the original, and the introduction of the Dark Side and Telepods make it very interesting.
