Google Keep, Fetch, Reuters, Blux Camera, and Star Wars Pinball all feature in this week’s top apps

Google Keep

Following leaked images last weekend, Google has now launched its own to-do list app exclusively on Android. It lets you jot down your thoughts, take and store photos, and dictate voice notes. Everything is arranged in a clean and tidy interface, with the options to apply colour coding to notes, and a widget for your home screen. While the app is highly functional, cynics might argue Keep is only a plug-in for Google Drive, as an account with the cloud service is required to use the app.

Fetch™

Featured as Editor’s Choice on the App Store, this iPad-only game follows a young boy on a sensational journey as he sets off to rescue his dog Bear. The gaming equivalent of Finding Nemo or Monsters Inc, Fetch’s graphics would not look out of place in a Pixar movie. This in itself is high praise, and the game is packed with interactive elements and a heart-warming story to boot, but it is aimed entirely at children. While fun, the gameplay is not particularly challenging.

Reuters

A new app from the Reuters Thompson news agency, this app is like a news ticker for your iPhone, providing the latest news and market data. The interface is very fluid, with the option to swipe through open windows for different subjects, such as Politics or Business news, and dragging the down the home screen to refresh stories with breaking news. There is also the option to save stories for offline reading and to create a stock watchlist.

Blux Camera for iPad

With the rise of the phablet and the minimizing of the iPad, it is becoming an increasingly common sight to see people at large events taking photos with their tablets. Spotting a gap in the market, enter Blux Camera with a custom-designed app for ‘iPadographers’. As well as a camera interface designed for a 7-inch screen, it also comes with PEAR Technology, a personal assistant that recommends the optimum settings, based on light, weather and other variables, to take gorgeous photos.

Star Wars™ Pinball 2

This game has been available to Android users for over a month now, however it has just been launched on iOS, complete with widescreen support for iPhone 5. The standalone game comes with a range of themed pinball tables, with The Empire Strikes Back available for free, and The Clone Wars and Boba Fett available by in-app purchases. The artwork is beautiful and the soundtrack is lifted straight from the movies, however the physics of the game are slightly off which can be frustrating.
