TheTake Review: What is that film star wearing? Tap to find out

Like Shazam for clothes, TheTake identifies what people are wearing in movies

The phrase ‘as seen on TV’ is a well-worn – some may say dubious – badge of honour for a product but there is no doubt that an item seen on a screen (large or small) can be more desirable. Meet TheTake, then, a free app that not only lets you spot items in your favourite movies but identifies where you can buy them near your location.

The app is nothing if not versatile. You can filter by actor or film, or choose from a host of preselected movies. Even better, you can get your iOS device to listen to a currently playing movie. It tries to pick up on keywords and sounds in a bid to identify what you are watching before showcasing a range of goodies from it. As you may expect it doesn’t always work but when it does, it’s amazing.

After finding an item you like, you can save or share it. If an exact match is not found, you’ll be shown something similar, listing where you can buy it from and providing a Get It button that tells of its availability. Prices and stores are in the US but you should be able to locate them closer to home if you live outside America.

Movies can also be watched and there is a great section that uses GPS to search for movie locations near you. For movie buffs wanting to steal some style, it’s a must-have app.

Rated 4 out of 5

Even when you’re chilling out watching a movie, there is not excuse to stop shopping thanks to TheTake.
